“Though many religious organizations are supplying assistance for the disaster, few are as well organized as the Scientologists, or as evident at the scene. When many volunteers were asked to clear out over the weekend, the Scientologists were allowed to stay, working alongside groups like the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.” - (The New York Times. Article written by Amy Waldman - September 20, 2001.)
The Volunteer Ministers
The Empire State Building a symbol so pure,
Summons the call of a minister to leave his front door.
Who stays with another in a local hotel room,
Overlooking a city that is now filled with gloom.
Our volunteer headquarters are located above,
And are becoming well known to hearts filled with love.
Where our Volunteer Ministers are proudly painting away,
Our symbol of freedom that is now on display.
The New York Times article acknowledges our support,
As Reverend John Carmichael and fireman strengthen the fort.
Our Volunteer Ministers are eagerly waiting to go,
To assist one another with the technology they know.
Bomb squad vans are slowly prowling our streets,
While respecting our Flag that shows we’re not weak.
Times Square blesses America with its solemn prayer,
While a Volunteer Minister assists Union Square.
Which now becomes a memorial during the day,
Where many people will gather to sit down and pray.
A Volunteer Minister pays her upmost respect,
By lighting a candle so we all can reflect.
The memorials will continue very late in the night,
To honor New York City for displaying its might.
While a monument arrives to honor all who have served,
With the flowers and roses they so deeply deserve.
Because many were lost while offering their help,
While loved ones are sought by broken hearts that are felt.
Yet the encouragements of peace keep pouring in,
And fill a subway police station with a kiss on the chin.
The Volunteer Ministers arrive at Stuyvesant school,
To deliver assists to all who are bruised.
While the heroes are fed at our freedom Café,
With our donated food that adds strength to their day.
The rubble is removed from our city streets,
As Volunteer Ministers get up close to the heat.
The yellow shirts are now known for alleviating the pain,
Because they’ll bend for another and ease up their strain.
The landscape looks eerie and the lights are all dim,
As a Volunteer Minister carries some waste to the bin.
The task ahead is long and there’s so much to do,
Nevertheless the Volunteer Minister is there for the Red, White and Blue.
