On Understanding
Understanding is the universal solvent. It washes away everything.
Most causes for complaint are based not on misconduct but on misunderstanding.
Only personal contact can restore understanding.
On Communication
What is a secret? It is the answer which was never given, and this is all a secret is.
Communication is essentially something which is sent and which is received. The intention to send and the intention to receive must both be present in some degree before an actual communication can take place. Therefore one could have conditions which appeared to be communications which were not.
Communication is the root of marital success from which a strong union can grow, and non-communication is the rock on which the ship will bash out her keel.
On Survival
Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the presence of a challenging environment.
Without order nothing can grow or expand.
Man, in affinity with man, survives, and that survival is pleasure.
Without order nothing can grow or expand.
An individual who can freely and with a clear heart do things because they’re fun is a very sane person.
On Goals
Dreams, goals, ambitions - these are the stuff man uses for fuel.
Failure consists exactly of something else happening rather than the intention.
Part of a goal is its glamour and part of any dream is the man who dreamed it.
Future is the creation of a future illusion and the working toward that illusion to make it a reality.
On Happiness
Often sought, but seldom found, there are no riches, gems or palaces as valued as mere happiness.
Happiness and strength endure only in the absence of hate. To hate alone is the road to disaster. To love is the road to strength. To love in spite of all is the secret of greatness. And may very well be the greatest secret in this universe.
There is nothing wrong with being the most important person under the sun if everybody else is just as important as you are.
Happiness is not itself an emotion. It is a word which states a condition and the anatomy of that condition is interest.
On Production
Production is the basis of morale.
Actually a “reward” is what one desires, not what is giving. Approval and validation are often more valuable than material rewards and are usually worked for far harder than mere pay.
There is ample reward in the satisfaction of doing one’s job and being part of a self respective group. Riches and power spring from that base.
On Leadership
A man who merely wants to be liked will never be a leader.
One cannot hold power and not use it.
Asserting one’s own importance is about as acceptable as a dead cat at a wedding.
Most people confuse a “taut ship” with a harshly led ship. Actually harshness has nothing to do with it. The right word is positiveness.
